PRESS RELEASE: Managing Partner Oshin Shahiean quoted in Wall Street Journal news article, 1st July 2016

Oshin Shahiean, managing partner and Immigration law specialist at OTS Solicitors, was quoted in an article featured in the Wall Street Journal on 23rd June 2016. The article, entitled Londoners With Continental Passports Worry Over ‘Brexit, discussed the anxiety being experienced by young, EU nationals living in London in the face of a possible vote to leave the European Union (which subsequently occurred on 23rd June).
The article centred on the attraction of London to young EU nationals, who flock to the capital for its cosmopolitan lifestyle, free markets and thriving economy.
It then went on to discuss the effect of the uncertainty Brexit poses on the residency rights of those born on the Continent but who have made Britain their home.

In the article, quoted Mr Shahiean as follows:

“Nothing is clear,” said Oshin Shahiean, a leading Immigration lawyer at OTS Solicitors. “Neither party is telling us what might happen.”

The uncertainty, he says, has touched off a scramble among EU immigrants to apply for long-term residency and citizenship. Applications prepared by OTS, Mr. Shahiean says, jumped to 15 already this month, compared with only one application in June 2015.

The article also briefly mentioned the struggles some EU nationals might face if they had to return to their home countries, especially in terms of gaining Employment and setting up their own business. Those interviewed commented that these two processes were remarkably easy in the UK compared to countries such as France.
