Article 50 Verdict – The Claimants Have Won!

As the law now stands, Theresa May cannot trigger Brexit without putting it to an MPs' vote in the House of Commons.

The high court made the historic decision a few minutes ago and we are now waiting to see if the Government appeals to the decision. This move is expected and the Supreme Court has earmarked 7-8th December for the hearing.

The case was brought by businesswoman Gina Miller and hairdresser Deir dos Santos, who are both British nationals.

According to Sky, the LCJ (Lord Chief Justice) has said the court accepts that some fundamental rights will be lose once article 50 is triggered.

BBC assistant political editor Norman Smith said, if the court's decision is not overturned, there could be "months and months" of parliamentary hurdles ahead.

The pound rose 1% following the news.
