Immigration Rules and the Appendix EU
There is a new section in the Immigration Rules called Appendix EU which specifically governs the basis on which EU nationals may apply under the settled status registration scheme. Settled status is the new legal status of EU citizens after the UK leaves the EU.
EU citizens and their family members with settled status or pre-settled status will have the same access as they currently do to healthcare, pensions and other benefits in the UK. This is the agreement our government came to with Brussels for EU citizens who already live here or arrive in the UK before 31 March 2020.
Details of the changes to the Immigration rules in relation to Appendix EU can be found on the Explanatory Memorandum to the Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules presented to Parliament on 20 July 2018 (CM 9675).
As part of the governments pilot scheme, Appendix EU comes into force on 28 August, but only for applicants from 15 hospitals and universities in the north west of England.
