Tier 4 Visa – International Students take another blow with major changes for Student Visa holders

Important dates for Tier 4 Visa Applicant

3 August 2015 & 12 November 2015

Major changes to the Immigration Rules were announced on 13 July 2015 and most of the changes will affect a person seeking leave to remain or entry visa as a Tier 4 student. The changes will affect anyone who applies for a Tier 4 visa on or after 3 August 2015 and subsequently, anyone who applies for a Tier 4 visa on or after 12 November 2015.

Time Limit (cap)

Currently the duration of your studies are time limited (capped). A student can only study in the UK for a maximum of 3 years below degree level and no more than five years on courses at degree level.

Important: Please note there will be changes to the time limit for Tier 4 applications made on or after 12 November 2015.

There are also changes to the 'way of calculating the time limit' for applications made on or after 3 August 2015 where the extra periods of leave before and after your course will be included in the calculation.

Finance

The financial requirements for Tier 4 visas will change for applications made on or after 12 November 2015.

You will have to show enough money to pay for your course fees and your living costs while you are in the UK or when making a Tier 4 application. You must have the correct level of funds for at least 28 days when you make your Tier 4 application.

These are significant changes and we suggest applicants to read the updated policy guidance carefully. It is very important for you to be familiar with the changes before making your application.

Important: There are a number of important change regarding Tier 4 (Child) visa on or after 3 August 2015 and an equally important change for Tier 4 (General) students who want to apply for a new Tier 4 visa in the UK on or after 12 November 2015.
